Makeup Monday Review – Wander Glow Ahead Illuminating Face Oil

Marvelous Monday Makeup Friends,

I hope your weekend was wonderful. Mine was hot. Just really really hot! Anyone else ready for fall?

On to more fun topics! Today we are talking about this face oil. I have recently become a fan of face oils and this one is pretty good. It can be used as a moisturizing primer which is how I have used it. It has a rose oil scent to it. This product is not too thick but it is also not too thin and watery. The oil definitely absorbs into my skin quickly and leaves it feeling hydrated and not an oily icky feeling.

You can see from the above photos how it looks and get a good idea of the consistency. The smell is pleasant and not overbearing. As I was using this it reminded me of something I was already using Physicians Formula Rose’ All Day oil free face serum.

I bought the Rose’ All Day as a sample size to try. I heard serums were good for my skin type! This has the same consistency, same scent and honestly makes my face feel soft and moisturized.

Overall I have been very happy about the Glow Ahead product. I will continue using for sure! As a full size product I anticipate this lasting at least a couple of months based on the amount I use each day.

I am going to give this oil 💄💄💄💄💄 out of 5. I will say though if a $15.99 price tag sounds more appealing than the $42.00 MSRP you might want to try the Rose’ All Day!

Love and 💄,

Restaurant Review – Olazzo

On a recent business trip, I had the pleasure of visiting Baltimore, Maryland. I know that this area has been in the news recently and I can tell you that I had a great time. It was clean, I felt safe in all the areas that I visited.

I had never been to this area before and it was really fun to visit. One of the things I love most about traveling is getting to experience the restaurants that we don’t have at home. Especially those restaurants that are locally owned and operated.

Olazzo was just the ticket. We visited the Silver Springs, Maryland location on a week night looking for a good Italian dinner. They did not disappoint.

I love this picture because it really gets the vibe of the rustic at home feeling that you get being in the restaurant. The low light and family style pictures on the walls made me feel like I was visiting a friend’s Italian grandmother’s home.

We started our meal with Arancini. If you have never tried these before they are risotto balls stuffed with mozzarella and served with marinara. I had never ordered them before because I had heard they were very difficult to make and were often not good at restaurants. We took a chance and I am so glad that we did. They were so very flavorful, this restaurant adds saffron to the balls, and the texture I can only say is unique but very very pleasant.

They brought small squares of bread with balsamic vinegar and olive oil for dipping and the cocktail was a Peach Bellini. it is always one of my favorites. It was just strong enough after a long hard day of travel and working!

I had a caprese salad that was phenomenal. I loved the fresh mozzarella and the tomato pieces were large tomatoes. There was no grape or cherry tomatoes to make it easier to serve. This was spot on and so very fresh. My main dish was the Gnocchi Duck Bolognese. This dish was amazing. The duck was so well cooked, there was no gamey taste that can often come from duck. The bolognese was not too acidic, it was a perfect blend of spice and tomato. We ordered dessert, a nice refreshing and simple vanilla gelato. I ate it too fast for a photo, sorry folks.

After leaving the restaurant, I learned it was owned by two brothers. They have the location we visited in Silver Springs, Maryland and another location (the original) in Bethesda. I was so fascinated by this family owned and operated business, that I reached out and asked for an interview. One of the family members obliged and you will see that exciting interview, right here next week. While you wait for the interview, here is a link to the restaurant’s website.

If you find yourself in Maryland, I would say you should make your way to Bethesda or Silver Springs and check out this wonderful restaurant.

Overall this restaurant receives 🍽🍽🍽🍽🍽 out of 5. The food was outstanding and the atmosphere was perfect. I only wish we had one in Tennessee.

Love and Mangia,

Movie Review – Murder Mystery

Wonderful Wednesday Movie Watchers,

Over the last couple of years, Netflix has really upped it’s game when it comes to original programming. An example of that, is this latest film Murder Mystery starring Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston. The couple is ready for a vacation and they take off on a trip for Europe. They find themselves in the center of a murder mystery that not only tests them individually but will test their marriage and it is hilarious!

I would not have imagined Sandler and Aniston as a couple but the chemistry for this “couple” was perfect. I don’t know why Aniston’s funny side is not always what I think of when I think of her as an actress. I think of her as beautiful first but you guys she is a comedienne. She can go head to head with Sandler and often steals the screen in a surprising way.

You will be happy to know that this Sandler film includes a character with a fake hand, some very interesting accents, and twists and turns right up until the very end. This was a perfect date night movie. My husband and I laughed and thoroughly enjoyed the entire ride. As a big reader, I found it fun that they referred back to stereotypical mystery plots. It made the movie even more fun.

If you have not watched this movie yet, I highly recommend it. I would watch it again. That is really the test of a good movie right? Would you watch it again?

This movie gets 🍿 🍿 🍿 🍿 🍿  out of 5.

Love and 🍿,

It’s Not Me, It’s You – Review

I always want to bring positive things to my blog. I also have decided that I want to be “real” with my readers. So this means, that some times things don’t work out the way we would like them to. Sometimes we have to post that review that isn’t all 4 or 5 star. Maybe the product was bad or not as advertised. Maybe the company didn’t meet the expectation. I don’t want to focus on negative but I want to give an honest review. So here we are folks. I have created a new category: It’s Not Me, It’s You – Review. These are going to be the times when it just doesn’t work out quite well and I have a story to tell you this week.

You know how you get nervous about these online sales and online companies. It’s scary to have a date with a company you don’t know or haven’t met in person. What will they be like? Will they be on-time? Will they say all the right things? Will they pick up the tab (free shipping)? I am a sucker for a monogram. It was time for a new shirt. So I made a date with Born to be Sassy for the 4th of July.  I found them on Facebook and thought, well if they are on Facebook I should give them a try. A fabulous sale – adorable monogrammed t-shirt for $9.99. How could I resist? Well folks, I got cat-fished. The shirt arrived and was cute. Yes it was cute. It was also far too large.

I emailed Sassy to find out what I could do and I was asked to send a pic to prove the error. OK, I get it. They have their concerns as much as I do. I sent the pic. I was told they would get my corrected shirt out ASAP. I received an email with a tracking number almost right away. I was told my replacement (corrected) item was on the way.  I was so happy. Sadly, here we are 11 days later. I was ghosted. The tracking number still says it never actually shipped was just created and I don’t have the shirt I wanted to rock on the 4th.

I will say this, the shirt that arrived was the design I had ordered. It is a very comfy and large shirt I can wear to bed or around the house. I would not have paid to have a shirt monogrammed for those purposes. However, the quality is good. The design is great. It is an ink print that does not appear like it will come off quickly or fade quickly. So I will put a link to the website BorntobeSassy and say totally up to you if you want to try. There is a good chance, you will be happy with your purchase.

If something should change and the shirt finally shows up for our date, I will absolutely update my blog and let you all know. In the meantime just imagine how cute this design would have been when I rocked it for some fireworks.

Overall this is a 2 out of 5 🍋🍋.

Love and better purchases ahead my friends,

Friday Foodie Review – BLT Mac & Cheese

Happy Friday! TGIF to say the least! I was ready for the weekend this morning and I am sure that you are too. I was originally going to post a different recipe today but when I made this mac and cheese it was just too good to wait to post.

I like to browse through the Pillsbury recipes on their website. This was a recipe I found and I just couldn’t resist trying. BLT Mac and Cheese. This is a link to the recipe directly on the Pillsbury site. BLT Mac and Cheese

I have also created a new Pinterest Board for my reviews. If you are interested in other recipes, etc. please feel free to check it out. RealGirlReviews Pinterest

Now on to the recipe! So this recipe is very straightforward. You could easily make this recipe gluten free by replacing the macaroni and panko with gluten friendly versions. For this particular use, I did not. I wanted to try the recipe exactly as it was listed.

Here are some pics of how to get started!

The one thing that took the longest time was boiling the noodles and of course, cooking the bacon. I did it in my cast iron and had to do in batches so it took a little while to cook the whole package. I will say though, I never regret making all the bacon because my house smells good for days afterwards.

Now here is how it looked all done!

This is definitely a recipe to be made again and again. The hubs loved it. He has taken to calling it Crackeroni and Cheese or Crack and Cheese for short. I think he might be addicted. I took it to work and shared with a few folks there and they loved it.

My opinion is that the tomato was a fun bright touch. The bacon added a slight crunch along with the panko, that made this one of those mac and cheese recipes you can’t wait to try again. This recipe is a crowd size recipe so I would definitely make sure you have a lot of folks around to eat it or you might burn out on it before you have finished the dish.

All in all this is a 🥓🥓🥓🥓🥓 out of 5 recipe!!! Give it a try and let me know what you think!

Love and 🥓

Book Review – It’s Always the Husband by Michele Campbell

Some of you may not know this, but the real girl behind RealGirlReviews (me!) has an online Facebook book club. The book club reads different books every month that are selected by the members. We then enjoy some discussion about the books at the end of the month/beginning of the following month.

We select our books by vote, there are always three books to choose from, fiction, non-fiction and classic. If you are interested in joining our club, please drop me a line. We are 65 members strong and growing. We have members all over the country and would invite anyone that loves to read to join us.

For June the book selection was the fiction selection It’s Always the Husband by Michele Campbell. This is a story of three women that meet in college as freshman. The girls are all very different. Kate is the rich beauty that doesn’t necessarily have a lot of time for classes. Jenny is the smart local girl that wants to go places. Aubrey is the girl from the wrong side of the tracks that is on financial aid and considers herself lucky to meet these other girls. Twenty years later, when one of these girls ends up standing on a bridge in a desperate situation, how do they all move forward with their lives and current situations. When one of them ends up dead, where will the fingers point. Is it always the husband?

Have you ever had a frenemy? This novel took me on a journey of friendship and enemy loathing like I could never have imagined. You want to like all of the girls. You want to hate all of the girls. The story grips you in a way that I honestly wasn’t expecting. As you learn more about each of these woman, you finds pieces of yourself in each of them. The insecurities and struggles. The book does a great job of going back and forth between the past and the present. Sometimes when I read a book that does that, I get frustrated or can’t understand the purpose of the “flashbacks”. With this story, I felt like every part of the past and present was relevant. Michele Campbell created a world where although you didn’t fully like everyone or maybe even anyone, you can’t put it down. You have to know what happened to these people and all of the details.

I will not give any spoilers away about the book, but I will say you are left in suspense and guessing right up until the very last minute, which I absolutely love. This is an excellent beach read. I would highly recommend you check it out. Check back next week when we have an interview with the author. The following is a link to this book on Amazon, I do not get anything from this but wanted to provide a quick way for you to check out and/or purchase this excellent novel.

Overall I am going to give this one 🥐🥐🥐🥐 out of 5 croissants.

Love 📚 and 🥐,

Makeup Monday Review – Tarte – Be You, Naturally, Eyeshadow Palette

Happy Monday my makeup loving friends! I hope you all had a fabulous weekend.

This past week I tried a different eye look with the Tarte pallet from my Boxy Charm box for June. This was my first use of a Tarte palette ever! For a little reminder of the palette here is a pic!

Here are some pics!

So here is my review. First the palette smelled like chocolate. This was awesome every morning! I really didn’t think I would like that type of smell each morning but it was fantastic. The shades were all neutral enough to be used by any skin type. The shimmers were gorgeous.

I didn’t use any other shadows to complete my looks. I purposely limited myself to this palette only. The only complaint was that the deep brown shade did not blend as well as I would have liked. You can tell by my photos I struggled. I will say however the overall looks were great! I’m excited to keep using this in conjunction with some other shades that I use often to create some really great looks!

Here’s one of my favorite makeup looks from the week!

The sad thing about being a glasses wearer is that your eye looks aren’t as prominent sometimes but hey it was a good makeup day.

Overall this palette gets a 💄💄💄💄 out of 5 rating.

Have you tried other Tarte eye palettes? What are your thoughts on the brand?
