Makeup Monday – Catch Up Review

Marvelous Monday my Makeup loving friends! I hope you had a wonderful weekend. I got my October BoxyCharm box this weekend and I can’t wait to share with you what I got. But first, I have to finish my reviews for the September box. This is going to be a bit of a long post and I apologize.

I’m going to start with the Violet Voss – Essentials Eyeshadow Palette. I was not super excited about this palette. I am a much more neutral kind of gal. I did attempt a look and wanted to share it with you though.

It was not bad but it was hard for me to work with the colors. I am going to continue to try. Now that fall is here I’m hoping the purple and the orange shades will come in handy. The colors were all very pigmented and long lasting on my eyes. The palette itself I would give πŸ’„πŸ’„πŸ’„πŸ’„Β out of 5 review but for me personally this is a πŸ’„πŸ’„πŸ’„.

Since I just discussed eyeshadow I should mention my review for the MODA – 5-pc Brush Kit.

I really liked these brushes. I have not used them as much as I would like to. I will say though they are soft and fluffy. I have had some brushes that were scratchy on my eyelids lately and these definitely were not. I also am just getting used to using a fluffy brush for my crease and I really liked how this brush worked. They are all marked with what they should be used for and I like that. It helped me try new brushes in new areas. Do you ever get stuck in a routine for brushes and wonder if maybe there is a better tool out there you haven’t tried yet. I feel like these brushes were a better tool and I am glad IΒ  tried. I plan to continue to use them and try to get some of their face brushes as well.

I am going to give these a πŸ’„πŸ’„πŸ’„πŸ’„πŸ’„Β of 5. Highly recommend giving them a try!

Next up we have MAC – Frost Lipstick CB96. Well folks, partly I am too old for frosty lipsticks and secondly this color was not meant for me.

I might try it again with a much more subtle makeup look and let this be the only pop of color. It is definitely a pretty shade. The pigment was very real. The color stayed on my lips all day but it also got on everything else along the way. My poor water bottle may never be the same. The lipstick was however the soft moisturizing feel that you will almost always find with MAC. I do wish it was a more flattering shade but like I said, perhaps if I get a tan or do a more subtle makeup I could make it better. As a product I’m giving this a πŸ’„πŸ’„πŸ’„πŸ’„Β out of 5 but for me and my skin tone, I am giving this a πŸ’„πŸ’„πŸ’„Β out of 5.

Finally, I am going to tell you all about the Laura Geller – Baked Gellato Swirl Illuminator.

This was probably my favorite item out of the box and with a $26 price tag, this makes the box a success in my book. The texture is very soft. Goes on powdery but does feel like a velvety cream. The glow is just so soft and perfect for an all the time use. I have used this every day since the first day I tried it and I can say this will be my go-to until I run out or until I get a new one I have to try through BoxyCharm! I love a little highlighter. This is also gentle enough you could use it all over to add just a little bit of glow to your face. I think you will agree if you give it a try. This product is definitely a πŸ’„πŸ’„πŸ’„πŸ’„πŸ’„Β out of 5 for me. Laura Geller has some great products and I hope I get some more in future boxes.

Overall, September’s box is going to be a πŸ’„πŸ’„πŸ’„Β and a half πŸ’„Β for me. I think I had some products that were not so great but I had some products that were great. Do you subscribe? Have you thought about subscribing? Are there other products you would be interested in me reviewing? Let me know!

Makeup Monday – Elemis Superfood Veggie Mask

Marvelous Monday my lovely readers and friends. Let’s face it if you are reading this, you are probably a friend being nice and reading my blog to make me feel good. I’m OK with it!

So when I got this month’s BoxyCharm box I was only so so excited about the mask. I don’t use masks very often. This particular mask said that you should use it once or twice per week. I’m definitely not a more than once a week kind of user. Also, I don’t know what superfood is going to do on my face but I was definitely willing to check it out. It felt kind of gimmicky to me.

The instructions are pretty basic as far as a mask goes. You put it on all over and you let it sit for 10 minutes. It does say that you might feel a little bit of a tingle. I did not feel this at all. The scent was a minty, licorice, earthy scent. It was oddly appealing and not appealing all at the same time.

This did not go on very thick. I was afraid that I didn’t have enough on. I actually applied twice and this was as thick as it got. I just used my fingers to apply and perhaps that was the problem. I watched a video on Instagram and a girl was using a makeup brush to apply and she seemed to be getting a pretty thick application.

When I removed the mask, my skin felt tight and very clean. My skin also felt very dried out. The tightness had me wishing for a moisturizer right away. As I did this mask before bed, I did go ahead and put on a night cream before bed and my skin felt much better by morning.

I will be honest and let you guys know that I only used this mask once so far. I am going to try it again and then I will probably pass along to a friend to try. I would say if you used this once per week, you would probably get a month or maybe two uses out of the tube.

With an MSRP of $35.00, I would not purchase this mask. The feeling while it was on my face was not bad, but honestly my skin felt so thirsty when I was done and that was not a good feeling for me.

For me this was a πŸ’„πŸ’„ out of 5.

Make-Up Monday – St. Tropez – Self Tan Classic Bronzing Mousse

Happy Monday my Make-Up addicts! I hope that you all had a lovely weekend. It is summer time and that means lots of time in the sun. Are you tanners? I am not a tanner. I am also not a self-tanner. I am very fair complected and I have just accepted my fate. I told you guys back in my post for myΒ June BoxyCharmΒ that I would try this self-tanner for all of you. Well folks, I have to keep it real.

So instead of trying something I really didn’t want to try. I got the help of a willing tester that actually likes and uses self-tanning products my Mom!

IMG_1098

Isn’t she just lovely? So I took her the product and asked her to try it. She rated smell, ease of application, longevity and of course price. Here is what she had to say.

The product was easy to apply, she saw immediate results so it easy to tell where it had been applied. The scent was pleasant at application. She put it on a few hours before bed to see if it would react with her sheets. I have been told this is a thing. So when she woke the next morning, the scent had changed in the evening to the typical scent of sunless tanning products but it was not overpowering. The tan remained pretty even. See the pic below. (The leg on the left is untreated and the leg on the right is the treated leg immediately after application.)

24 hours later she showered and advised that even with some extra scrubbing her suds remained white and the product was not coming off. She said that her sheets maintained the self-tanning odor but there were no stains.

A week later, I followed up with her and she said that the product had a good staying power. She said she probably would have applied another layer of the product to her thighs because her lower legs got some sun but the thighs didn’t so they are a little uneven now that a week has passed. She used only about 1/3 of the bottle to do this test and that the bottle would be about 2 full body applications. The cost of $24.50 MSRP is a little pricey for self-tanner, she considers her max about $15.00.

Overall a great experience, and a 3.5 toΒ  πŸ’„πŸ’„πŸ’„πŸ’„out of 5 rating. I hope you have enjoyed a real girl review from the real girl mom! Thanks for your help Mom! You rock!

Love and πŸ’„
