Entertainment Review – Paint My Pet

Wonderful Wednesday Wacky Friends,

Do you ever find yourself looking for something “new” to do. Well I was looking for something fun and new to do with some friends and we found a very cool Paint Your Pet event at a local restaurant.

The way it works, you pay for the event. This particular one was $50.00. You send them a photo of your pet. You then show up on the date of the event and you get to paint your pet.

When I arrived this is what I found. This sample photo of my pet that I submitted with a traced image. We were given the instructions that this is “pop” art. You can go with true colors or you can do out there and fun colors. I decided to go with a realistic shading and coloring.

The first part that you do is your background color. My husbands office is a really cool green and I chose a color that would make this painting pop on the wall.

You can see that my application was not perfect but well it was fun. The background was definitely the easiest part. You can also see there to the right of my painting, my Thai Tea! It’s my favorite drink at our local Thai restaurant.

The next step is different shading. They leader for the event helps you learn how to shade the image as well as how to mix your own colors and create different shades for me, it was shades of white and gray. I failed to take an in between picture, so I will just tell you the final step is the nose and the eyes. If you are going traditional you can use the black and well you will end up with something that looks like your pet! I loved that they took the time to help us learn how to use the paint to make the eyes look “alive”.

So here is my final product:

Personally I’m pretty happy with it. My hubs gave me the best compliment when you said he just wished it was a larger size. He really liked it.

So take it from this girl that has absolutely no skill when it comes to painting for art, anyone can do this. It is so much fun. Get a group of friends, have some cocktails or some appetizers and paint your pet.

If you google Paint Your Pet, you can find someone in your local area that provides this service. Really y’all 10 out of 10 on the fun scale!

Love,

Becky

Makeup Monday Review – Tarte Big Ego Mascara

Marvelous Monday Makeup Friends!

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend. I know I did. The hubs and I went fishing. This was the first time I have been fishing in I can’t tell you how many years and it had been quite a while for my man as well. We had a blast though. It made for some really great relaxing time for the two of us. I’ll tell you more about it and post some pics soon. Today, however, I know you are all only interested in the makeup so I’m going to give you what you came here for.

IMG_1823

As part of my August BoxyCharm, I received this mascara. I like to try new types of mascara because as I have aged and my hormones have changed, my eyelashes have definitely thinned. I like to find something that makes them full and long without weighing them down or being to clunky on my eyes.

IMG_1845

This formula felt nice going on. I really liked the brush. The shape was nice to enhance each individual lash. The formula was not too thin or too thick. It was very nice going on.

You can see on the left picture above, I had one eye with mascara and one eye without. It was very obvious that this mascara helped. The other pic included my bottom lashes. I did like how it coated those lashes without too much clumping.

IMG_1863

This was one day that I was able to do a beautiful complete eye look. I was really happy with it.

Now for the downside, by the end of the day, EVERY day, this mascara has flaked off of my lashes. I have little clumps of mascara under my eyes and all the way down my face. I wear glasses so I don’t rub my eyes throughout the day, I try to just leave them alone. This mascara seemed to dry out so much throughout the day that I couldn’t really bring myself to get behind it. I have continued to use it and I will use it until it’s gone or another 5 months whichever comes sooner because well, it’s expensive mascara and I like to use what I have. I will tell you however, this is one of those much better suited for a night out than a full day of makeup.

As mentioned this mascara with a $23 price point is definitely a more expense mascara than I would just try on my own. I am always so glad for my subscription box because it does allow me to try higher end items without paying as much for them.

Overall, I am going to give this a 💄💄💄 out of 5. It has some fine qualities but it is also lacking in some areas. With a cost of almost twice as much as most mascara out there that works really well. I just can’t go over that score.

Friday Foodie Restaurant Review – Triplet’s BBQ

Fabulous Friday Friends,

I hope you all have had a fabulous week. We are still riding on the dreams of summer cook-outs and vacation time with the Labor Day Holiday, so I thought I would share a review of a nearby restaurant called Triplet’s BBQ.

My husband and I went to this restaurant a couple months back and well I have been dying to write this review ever since.

Yes, you go into this giant grain silo and that is where you eat your meal. They had benches along the wall which was so very smart because it made really great use of the space. Farm animals AKA BBQ were the name of the game when it comes to decor.

IMG_1522

Now let’s talk food. If you like any type of BBQ you will like this place. The picture above is of the dish that I chose called a BBQ Sundae! It was layers of BBQ meat goodness and I highly recommend it. Per the menu this was layers of smoked meat (pork & brisket), Cornbread, beans, slaw, bbq sauces, and house pickles. The cornbread on top was the right amount of sweet and savory. It was also the perfect consistency with BBQ. It was not too crumbly and not to firm.

They had so many different sides to choose from. You can see the beans and the coleslaw in the photo above. They were part of the sundae. There are other sides to choose though.

I am a big fan of broccoli salad. This one in particular was very very tasty. They had the right amount of cheese and the right amount of red onion. These are the ingredients that most places just don’t get right for my taste. Now I’m going to talk about what was perhaps the mac & cheese, both my husband and I have ever tasted. This is a Smoked Gouda mac & cheese. The mac was a little over done for my tastes but I like my noodles extra al dente. So I don’t ever hold that against anyone. The flavor here is what we are raving about and telling everyone we know. If they have a chance to head up and visit Cadiz, KY, they need to stop by this BBQ joint and try out not just the amazing BBQ but the mac & cheese. Also, if they like us enough they will bring some back in a cooler!

Finally the true gem of any BBQ join is the sauce. Am I right? Sauce can make or break a BBQ meal. This can also greatly depend on the meat you are having. I am a girl that is very preferential to a mustard sauce. I am also a very traditional vinegar based sauce girl when it comes to pulled pork and how you are covering everything on your bun. If we are talking about ribs, I want a sweet and sticky sauce that is as much a part of the experience as it is a part of the flavor.

IMG_1526

They had three different sauces. Dr. Pepper sauce which was a little sweeter. Jury Spicy sauce which was definitely on the spicy side for me, but the hubs was a fan. My particular meal had both sauces included as the sundae was well full with goodness from all angles!

Overall this was an amazing experience. I highly recommend checking out Triplet’sBBQ if you are in the area. If you are planning a trip to the KY area make this a stop on your list. You will not regret it. 🍽🍽🍽🍽🍽out of 5 experience for sure. Couldn’t recommend more.

Movie Review – Shazam!

Wonderful Wednesday friends! This past weekend was a holiday weekend so guess what? That meant movies with the family! I had mentioned that I want to do a review of the Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society movie in relation to the book but well I got out voted for super hero movies.

We started with the movie I’m going to tell you about today. Shazam!

D1Z7df1VAAAbL7z The movie came out in April 2019. So I am not too far behind on the ball for this one. I will be honest, we just don’t go to the actual movies much anymore. Most of the time we just wait for them to be available on Vudu for rent or purchase.

So on to the review. This movie is of course based off of the comic books. I am not a huge comic book fan but I have generally enjoyed most of the super hero movies of the last couple of decades. I’m almost 40 what can I say, it’s what my generation is doing!

A 14 year old foster kid named Billy Batson discovers his inner super-hero, in this hilarious, touching tale. As his new found alter ego Shazam he discovers so much about himself and what being a hero really means. I watched with the hubs and the son. They both enjoyed this as much as I did. I really enjoyed it being a true family friendly movie. It had a PG-13 rating, I don’t recall a lot of language or anything like that. It was just a fun story for us to all watch. There was some violence but it all felt very much like comic-book violence if that makes any sense. The extra hard punches and the catching flying buses. There were a few people thrown out of a building that may be a little concerning for younger viewers but overall it was a great family movie.

What does home really mean and when do you know you have found it? Check out this great movie for a heart-warming experience. If you want to bump that up even more, watch it with family!

Giving this one 🍿 🍿 🍿 🍿 🍿 out of 5. It is a much watch for 2019!

Love and 🍿,

Becky

Book Review – The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society

51zSWUuPdTL._SX315_BO1,204,203,200_

Wonderful Wednesday reader friends! I hope that you are all having a fantastic week. I have been reading a lot lately and I will be spending a lot of time updating you all on some great reads over the next few weeks.

This week we are talking about The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows. Have you heard about this book? Perhaps you have heard about or even seen the movie of the same name. It is currently on Netflix.

Here is the synopsis from Amazon:

“I wonder how the book got to Guernsey? Perhaps there is some sort of secret homing instinct in books that brings them to their perfect readers.” January 1946: London is emerging from the shadow of the Second World War, and writer Juliet Ashton is looking for her next book subject. Who could imagine that she would find it in a letter from a man she’s never met, a native of the island of Guernsey, who has come across her name written inside a book by Charles Lamb. . . .

As Juliet and her new correspondent exchange letters, Juliet is drawn into the world of this man and his friends—and what a wonderfully eccentric world it is. The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society—born as a spur-of-the-moment alibi when its members were discovered breaking curfew by the Germans occupying their island—boasts a charming, funny, deeply human cast of characters, from pig farmers to phrenologists, literature lovers all.

Juliet begins a remarkable correspondence with the society’s members, learning about their island, their taste in books, and the impact the recent German occupation has had on their lives. Captivated by their stories, she sets sail for Guernsey, and what she finds will change her forever.

Written with warmth and humor as a series of letters, this novel is a celebration of the written word in all its guises and of finding connection in the most surprising ways.

My thoughts:

This story captured me in the first sentences. The style is a series of correspondence that takes you on a journey with the characters. I found it a very intriguing take on life after World War II. How each of the characters was affected by the horrible war, is told in such a unique and interesting way. Juliet is such a likable character. She leads this cast of unique individuals on a stunning journey of growth and love. Each of the different members of the Potato Peel Society brings their own special flair to the story. I can not tell you all how much I have loved this story. By use of the correspondence as the way to tell the story, everything flowed so easily. Each of these characters is searching for their own love and security. I found myself dreaming about writing letters more often as I read this story. Maybe this little blog is my way of writing a letter to each of you. Does that count? Now I need to find myself a pen pal.

Overall, this was an amazing read. Full of laughter, drama, tragedy and of course, love. I am giving this for sure ☕️☕️☕️☕️☕️ out of 5. If you would like to purchase the book here is a link on Amazon.

I am going to watch the movie and share my review of that as well very soon. Also, I need to seriously find a pen pal!

Makeup Monday Review – Wander Glow Ahead Illuminating Face Oil

Marvelous Monday Makeup Friends,

I hope your weekend was wonderful. Mine was hot. Just really really hot! Anyone else ready for fall?

On to more fun topics! Today we are talking about this face oil. I have recently become a fan of face oils and this one is pretty good. It can be used as a moisturizing primer which is how I have used it. It has a rose oil scent to it. This product is not too thick but it is also not too thin and watery. The oil definitely absorbs into my skin quickly and leaves it feeling hydrated and not an oily icky feeling.

You can see from the above photos how it looks and get a good idea of the consistency. The smell is pleasant and not overbearing. As I was using this it reminded me of something I was already using Physicians Formula Rose’ All Day oil free face serum.

I bought the Rose’ All Day as a sample size to try. I heard serums were good for my skin type! This has the same consistency, same scent and honestly makes my face feel soft and moisturized.

Overall I have been very happy about the Glow Ahead product. I will continue using for sure! As a full size product I anticipate this lasting at least a couple of months based on the amount I use each day.

I am going to give this oil 💄💄💄💄💄 out of 5. I will say though if a $15.99 price tag sounds more appealing than the $42.00 MSRP you might want to try the Rose’ All Day!

Love and 💄,

Becky

Book Review – The Murder House James Patterson and David Ellis

The Murder House

Wonderful Wednesday Reader Friends,

So here is a little secret, I don’t always “read” these books. I have a decent commute every day (around 45 minutes each way) so I will often listen to audio books. I do not subscribe to Audible or anything like that, I use an app called OverDrive. This app is connected to my local library and I can “check-out” books to read through my Kindle or audio books to listen to through the OverDrive app on my cell phone, hands free of course people. I know this app is available via iTunes, not sure about other services like GooglePlay, etc.

Sometimes, I start to listen to a book and a stop for whatever reason. Maybe I didn’t get through it and the borrowing period ended, there is always a reason something didn’t get done. Anyway, as I started to listen to this story, it was very familiar. I was about a chapter in and realized I had started this before. I didn’t however, remember enough to make me want to stop listening and I am so glad that I didn’t. I never finished because the ending was a complete surprise to me.

The book I am talking about is of course The Murder House by James Patterson and David Ellis.

Summary (via James Patterson’s website)

Detective Jenna Murphy comes to the Hamptons to solve a murder-but what she finds is more deadly than she could ever imagine.

Trying to escape her troubled past and rehabilitate a career on the rocks, former New York City cop Jenna Murphy hardly expects her lush and wealthy surroundings to be a hotbed of grisly depravity. But when a Hollywood power broker and his mistress are found dead in the abandoned Murder House, the gruesome crime scene rivals anything Jenna experienced in Manhattan. And what at first seems like an open and shut case turns out to have as many shocking secrets as the Murder House itself, as Jenna quickly realizes that the mansion’s history is much darker than even the town’s most salacious gossips could have imagined.

As more bodies surface, and the secret that Jenna has tried desperately to escape closes in on her, she must risk her own life to expose the truth-before the Murder House claims another victim. Full of the twists and turns that have made James Patterson the world’s #1 bestselling writer, The Murder House is a chilling, page-turning story of murder, money, and revenge.

My take:

This story starts off from the very first sentence with action. You are pulled along for the ride whether you want to be or not. If I were reading this book physically, I have no doubt it would be a page turner. I know that I struggled to stop the audio when I would get to the office each morning or when I got home each evening. The characters are all flawed enough to be very believable. One character that we are introduced to, rather quickly is Noah Walker. The ups and downs of this character are enough to be a novel in itself. Jenna is one of those characters that you feel for, but at the same time you have moments where you want to grab her by the shoulders and shake her.

I enjoyed this story from start to finish. The town in the Hamptons is as much a character as the people in the story. You learn about the area and how it affects the comings and goings of all of the characters. I think that with this one James Patterson has outdone himself. I was very impressed by the speed of the action as well. For a novel that is 451 pages, you truly get 451 pages of interest. There did not appear to be a lull to me. Also, while I will not give spoilers, I will say that the ending left me satisfied. There were no holes that were left to annoy me when I  finished. It was a good wrapped up story.

I am going to give this read 🥐🥐🥐🥐🥐 out of 5 croissants. This is a grab a cup of coffee with a croissant, that turns into a glass of tea with your lunch, and a glass of wine after dinner kind of read. You won’t be able to put it down.

Sadly, I don’t have an author interview to go along with this review. I do have some things in the works though, so please keep checking back with me friends!

Love and 📚,

Becky
