I am most excited about the eyeshadow palette. I like the colors and I am excited to see ifΒ  I can create some cool looks that are also appropriate for the office.

I am least excited about the eyelashes as I don’t normally use false eyelashes but I definitely want to give them a shot. Who knows maybe they will be my favorite thing in the box.

Overall, I’m giving this month’s box πŸ’„πŸ’„πŸ’„πŸ’„Β out of 5. Check in next week to see if the products are living up to this score.

Love and πŸ’„,

Friday Foodie Review – Chicken Adobo

Happy Friday friends! Are you looking for something super easy for your weekend? My slow-cooker always saves the day when I am in need of something flavorful and I don’t want to put in a lot of effort. I know that sounds terrible. We that cook should always want to spend hours in the kitchen making each ingredient sing like it’s the star. No, people. This is not the truth. Even if we love food and love cooking, sometimes we have other things to do. Sometimes those things may be binge watching a TV show with our husbands but trust me there are important things to do!

In walks this fabulous slow-cooker recipe. My husband and I went to an event a couple of years ago and they served Chicken Adobo. I didn’t know what it was, I had never had it before and I quickly discovered it was tasty! I found thisΒ recipeΒ a couple of years ago and well it sat. It was saved on my Pillsbury page and that is where it stayed. Until, the other day. I thought this sounds soooo yummy! So I made it.

You do brown the chicken first, but please know you are not cooking the chicken you are simply getting a good crust on the skin. Now you will also notice that I used skinless thighs. Well the browning still had a nice effect and, while I try to stay true to a recipe at the least the first time I try it. I also like to stay true to my wallet and use what I have on hand.

IMG_1421

I made Mexican rice packets from Knorr to go with the chicken and it was soooo good. We did pick the peppercorns off of our plates because I forgot to strain it, a slight kitchen fail on my part. I took the roasted garlic and spread it on my some buttered toast for an amazing garlic bread to go with our fantastic dinner.

Overall, this was a πŸ—πŸ—πŸ—πŸ—πŸ—out of 5 recipe. We will definitely be making it again. the flavor is very different from anything I have made before. Traditionally, it is served with white rice but I really enjoyed the flavor of the Mexican rice with it. I am so glad that I finally tried this recipe. I hope you don’t want as long as I did.

Remember, if you are interested in what I am cooking and what will be featured on the blog soon, check out myΒ Pinterest BoardΒ for all the recipes and things we are trying on the blog.

Make-Up Monday – St. Tropez – Self Tan Classic Bronzing Mousse

Happy Monday my Make-Up addicts! I hope that you all had a lovely weekend. It is summer time and that means lots of time in the sun. Are you tanners? I am not a tanner. I am also not a self-tanner. I am very fair complected and I have just accepted my fate. I told you guys back in my post for myΒ June BoxyCharmΒ that I would try this self-tanner for all of you. Well folks, I have to keep it real.

IMG_1565

So instead of trying something I really didn’t want to try. I got the help of a willing tester that actually likes and uses self-tanning products my Mom!

IMG_1098

Isn’t she just lovely? So I took her the product and asked her to try it. She rated smell, ease of application, longevity and of course price. Here is what she had to say.

The product was easy to apply, she saw immediate results so it easy to tell where it had been applied. The scent was pleasant at application. She put it on a few hours before bed to see if it would react with her sheets. I have been told this is a thing. So when she woke the next morning, the scent had changed in the evening to the typical scent of sunless tanning products but it was not overpowering. The tan remained pretty even. See the pic below. (The leg on the left is untreated and the leg on the right is the treated leg immediately after application.)

IMG_1562

24 hours later she showered and advised that even with some extra scrubbing her suds remained white and the product was not coming off. She said that her sheets maintained the self-tanning odor but there were no stains.

A week later, I followed up with her and she said that the product had a good staying power. She said she probably would have applied another layer of the product to her thighs because her lower legs got some sun but the thighs didn’t so they are a little uneven now that a week has passed. She used only about 1/3 of the bottle to do this test and that the bottle would be about 2 full body applications. The cost of $24.50 MSRP is a little pricey for self-tanner, she considers her max about $15.00.

Overall a great experience, and a 3.5 toΒ  πŸ’„πŸ’„πŸ’„πŸ’„out of 5 rating. I hope you have enjoyed a real girl review from the real girl mom! Thanks for your help Mom! You rock!

Friday Foodie Review – BLT Mac & Cheese

Happy Friday! TGIF to say the least! I was ready for the weekend this morning and I am sure that you are too. I was originally going to post a different recipe today but when I made this mac and cheese it was just too good to wait to post.

I like to browse through the Pillsbury recipes on their website. This was a recipe I found and I just couldn’t resist trying. BLT Mac and Cheese. This is a link to the recipe directly on the Pillsbury site.Β BLT Mac and Cheese

I have also created a new Pinterest Board for my reviews. If you are interested in other recipes, etc. please feel free to check it out.Β RealGirlReviews Pinterest

Now on to the recipe! So this recipe is very straightforward. You could easily make this recipe gluten free by replacing the macaroni and panko with gluten friendly versions. For this particular use, I did not. I wanted to try the recipe exactly as it was listed.

Here are some pics of how to get started!

The one thing that took the longest time was boiling the noodles and of course, cooking the bacon. I did it in my cast iron and had to do in batches so it took a little while to cook the whole package. I will say though, I never regret making all the bacon because my house smells good for days afterwards.

Now here is how it looked all done!

This is definitely a recipe to be made again and again. The hubs loved it. He has taken to calling it Crackeroni and Cheese or Crack and Cheese for short. I think he might be addicted. I took it to work and shared with a few folks there and they loved it.

My opinion is that the tomato was a fun bright touch. The bacon added a slight crunch along with the panko, that made this one of those mac and cheese recipes you can’t wait to try again. This recipe is a crowd size recipe so I would definitely make sure you have a lot of folks around to eat it or you might burn out on it before you have finished the dish.

All in all this is a πŸ₯“πŸ₯“πŸ₯“πŸ₯“πŸ₯“ out of 5 recipe!!! Give it a try and let me know what you think!

Love and πŸ₯“

Makeup Monday – Dominique Cosmetics – Lemonade Lipgloss

Happy Monday my makeup loving friends! Today I am going to tell you a bit about my Lemonade Lipgloss. The color, scent, flavor (LOL) that I received in my BoxyCharm box was Peach Tea. I loved the name and it was true to the color. The scent was somewhat Peachy so I was a fan of that.

Here is a link back to my post to give you the deets on the price, etc.Β June BoxyCharm Review

Overall this was a decent lipgloss. I am one of those girls that is funny about lipgloss. I love for them to look glossy but I don’t love for them to feel sticky on my lips and unfortunately most glosses are just that, very sticky. The wind blows and now you have hair stuck to your lips and you try to get the hair off your lips and you have gloss in your hair and on your cheek and it’s all just a mess. This gloss was no exception it was sticky.

I used the gloss all last week. The first picture was a fresh application and it is sooooo pretty with the glossiness that I got. I really did love it. The middle picture was taken after an application which included a lip liner. The last picture was taken after I had the gloss on for a couple of hours one day. It had reasonable wear but something about the way it settled into sticky, made me want to continue to apply it throughout the day. I realize this sounds confusing but I really believe it got more sticky as it was on my lips longer throughout the day.

Would I wear this gloss for a photo shoot? Sure! If anyone, ever actually wanted me in a photo shoot! LOL! I probably will not continue to wear this regularly but I will keep it handy in the event I just really need something on my lips, because let’s face it friends, those days occur.

Overall, my review is this…if you are a lip gloss person, I really believe that you would love this gloss. If you are more of a balm or regular lipstick wearer,Β  I would avoid this product.

For me this was a three out of five lipstick review! πŸ’„πŸ’„πŸ’„

Book Review – It’s Always the Husband by Michele Campbell

Some of you may not know this, but the real girl behind RealGirlReviews (me!) has an online Facebook book club. The book club reads different books every month that are selected by the members. We then enjoy some discussion about the books at the end of the month/beginning of the following month.

We select our books by vote, there are always three books to choose from, fiction, non-fiction and classic. If you are interested in joining our club, please drop me a line. We are 65 members strong and growing. We have members all over the country and would invite anyone that loves to read to join us.

For June the book selection was the fiction selection It’s Always the Husband by Michele Campbell. This is a story of three women that meet in college as freshman. The girls are all very different. Kate is the rich beauty that doesn’t necessarily have a lot of time for classes. Jenny is the smart local girl that wants to go places. Aubrey is the girl from the wrong side of the tracks that is on financial aid and considers herself lucky to meet these other girls. Twenty years later, when one of these girls ends up standing on a bridge in a desperate situation, how do they all move forward with their lives and current situations. When one of them ends up dead, where will the fingers point. Is it always the husband?

Have you ever had a frenemy? This novel took me on a journey of friendship and enemy loathing like I could never have imagined. You want to like all of the girls. You want to hate all of the girls. The story grips you in a way that I honestly wasn’t expecting. As you learn more about each of these woman, you finds pieces of yourself in each of them. The insecurities and struggles. The book does a great job of going back and forth between the past and the present. Sometimes when I read a book that does that, I get frustrated or can’t understand the purpose of the “flashbacks”. With this story, I felt like every part of the past and present was relevant. Michele Campbell created a world where although you didn’t fully like everyone or maybe even anyone, you can’t put it down. You have to know what happened to these people and all of the details.

I will not give any spoilers away about the book, but I will say you are left in suspense and guessing right up until the very last minute, which I absolutely love. This is an excellent beach read. I would highly recommend you check it out. Check back next week when we have an interview with the author. The following is a link to this book on Amazon, I do not get anything from this but wanted to provide a quick way for you to check out and/or purchase this excellent novel.

Overall I am going to give this one πŸ₯πŸ₯πŸ₯πŸ₯ out of 5 croissants.

Love πŸ“š and πŸ₯,

Becky

Makeup Monday Review – Tarte – Be You, Naturally, Eyeshadow Palette

Happy Monday my makeup loving friends! I hope you all had a fabulous weekend.

This past week I tried a different eye look with the Tarte pallet from my Boxy Charm box for June. This was my first use of a Tarte palette ever! For a little reminder of the palette here is a pic!

Here are some pics!

So here is my review. First the palette smelled like chocolate. This was awesome every morning! I really didn’t think I would like that type of smell each morning but it was fantastic. The shades were all neutral enough to be used by any skin type. The shimmers were gorgeous.

I didn’t use any other shadows to complete my looks. I purposely limited myself to this palette only. The only complaint was that the deep brown shade did not blend as well as I would have liked. You can tell by my photos I struggled. I will say however the overall looks were great! I’m excited to keep using this in conjunction with some other shades that I use often to create some really great looks!

Here’s one of my favorite makeup looks from the week!

The sad thing about being a glasses wearer is that your eye looks aren’t as prominent sometimes but hey it was a good makeup day.

Overall this palette gets a πŸ’„πŸ’„πŸ’„πŸ’„ out of 5 rating.

Have you tried other Tarte eye palettes? What are your thoughts on the brand?

Love and πŸ’„
