Movie Review – The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society

Wonderful Wednesday my amazing reader friends!!!

I hope your week is going awesome! Mine has been a little weird. I have not been feeling well but I’m pushing through! I have been reading and watching a lot of movies lately as I have been on the treadmill a lot and well that’s what I do, other than walk of course, on the treadmill.

One of the movies I watched recently was today’s review!

First, let me say isn’s Lily James just the best? I just think she is absolutely adorable and a wonderful actress. I reviewed the book a few weeks ago and you all know I really loved it! Here is the review in case you missed it!

The movie is different then the book. I will be honest and tell you up front I liked the book better. The movie jumps into the story so quickly and the book really develops the relationships between the characters. I prefer the more in-depth look at all the relationships.

As a book lover, I have to say the idea of the story and a book bringing people together makes my heart happy! I am also a big history buff so a movie based on this time in history is fascinating. One thing that was easier to recognize in the movie quicker than the book was the chemistry between the main characters. In the book I imagined Dawsey older as a fatherly figure until the end. With the movie, Dawsey is presented as a handsome potential love interest.

I’m going to give this a ๐Ÿฟ๐Ÿฟ๐Ÿฟ๐Ÿฟ out of 5. Only 4 because I felt the character development was a little rushed in the movie. The story is still true to itself but definitely a little lacking. Lily James is worth watching alone but it’s a good movie if you need a heartwarming afternoon.

Love and ๐Ÿฟ,

Movie Review – Shazam!

Wonderful Wednesday friends! This past weekend was a holiday weekend so guess what? That meant movies with the family! I had mentioned that I want to do a review of the Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society movie in relation to the book but well I got out voted for super hero movies.

We started with the movie I’m going to tell you about today. Shazam!

D1Z7df1VAAAbL7zย The movie came out in April 2019. So I am not too far behind on the ball for this one. I will be honest, we just don’t go to the actual movies much anymore. Most of the time we just wait for them to be available on Vudu for rent or purchase.

So on to the review. This movie is of course based off of the comic books. I am not a huge comic book fan but I have generally enjoyed most of the super hero movies of the last couple of decades. I’m almost 40 what can I say, it’s what my generation is doing!

A 14 year old foster kid named Billy Batson discovers his inner super-hero, in this hilarious, touching tale. As his new found alter ego Shazam he discovers so much about himself and what being a hero really means. I watched with the hubs and the son. They both enjoyed this as much as I did. I really enjoyed it being a true family friendly movie. It had a PG-13 rating, I don’t recall a lot of language or anything like that. It was just a fun story for us to all watch. There was some violence but it all felt very much like comic-book violence if that makes any sense. The extra hard punches and the catching flying buses. There were a few people thrown out of a building that may be a little concerning for younger viewers but overall it was a great family movie.

What does home really mean and when do you know you have found it? Check out this great movie for a heart-warming experience. If you want to bump that up even more, watch it with family!

Giving this one ๐Ÿฟ ๐Ÿฟ ๐Ÿฟ ๐Ÿฟ ๐Ÿฟย out of 5. It is a much watch for 2019!

Love and ๐Ÿฟ,

Movie Review – Murder Mystery

Wonderful Wednesday Movie Watchers,

Over the last couple of years, Netflix has really upped it’s game when it comes to original programming. An example of that, is this latest film Murder Mystery starring Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston. The couple is ready for a vacation and they take off on a trip for Europe. They find themselves in the center of a murder mystery that not only tests them individually but will test their marriage and it is hilarious!

I would not have imagined Sandler and Aniston as a couple but the chemistry for this “couple” was perfect. I don’t know why Aniston’s funny side is not always what I think of when I think of her as an actress. I think of her as beautiful first but you guys she is a comedienne. She can go head to head with Sandler and often steals the screen in a surprising way.

You will be happy to know that this Sandler film includes a character with a fake hand, some very interesting accents, and twists and turns right up until the very end. This was a perfect date night movie. My husband and I laughed and thoroughly enjoyed the entire ride. As a big reader, I found it fun that they referred back to stereotypical mystery plots. It made the movie even more fun.

If you have not watched this movie yet, I highly recommend it. I would watch it again. That is really the test of a good movie right? Would you watch it again?

This movie gets ๐Ÿฟ ๐Ÿฟ ๐Ÿฟ ๐Ÿฟ ๐Ÿฟย  out of 5.

Love and ๐Ÿฟ,

Media Wednesday Review – I Feel Pretty

While traveling I occasionally have an evening where I am done with work and want to just relax in the room. I tend to search for movies I haven’t seen that my husband wouldn’t want to watch with me at home. This trip I found, I Feel Pretty starring Amy Schumer and Michelle Williams.

This story of a very insecure woman that suddenly has all the confidence in the world was a very interesting premise. It somehow reminded me of the flick Shallow Hal from the 90s. Anyone else see that one?

Any way the movie does a good job of showing how very insecure the lead character is and how a simple powerful suggestion can make her feel otherwise. I will be honest as a larger woman I get so confused when I see women that are thin and dress well, etc. feel insecure about themselves. I do realize though that as women we all have things about ourselves we would like to change and I think the movie does a good job of showing that insecurity is a universal problem.

I liked that the movie moved along well and it didn’t have any slow spots in my opinion. I like the character arc and where the lead takes the story and the ending was actually better than I had hoped for an Amy Schumer movie. I’ll be honest I’m not necessarily a fan. There were some good laughs, some cringe worthy moments and some good girl bonding moments. Also shout out to Michelle Williams. Here character was well played. I am glad I watched it and wouldn’t want my money back! On a scale of 1 to 5 popcorns I give this movie๐Ÿฟ ๐Ÿฟ๐Ÿฟ.

Here is a link to the trailer so you can decide if you want to check this one out as well. I Feel Pretty Trailer
