The Weighting Game

image1Losing weight is something that I have needed to do for most of my life. I have succeeded and failed at this endeavor for most of my life. The yo-yo that is my weight has caused me to often times be very frustrated but most importantly it has caused me, in recent years, to re-evaluate how I think about weight, diet and body image in general. Now, don’t get me wrong, I am not a girl with low self-esteem. I think I am awesome and I always have, but my body is not what I want it to be. So, I had to start thinking about what is important to me when it comes to my weight and my life. Here are the things that I have figured out: I enjoy some types of exercise, treadmills, yoga and dancing, but as of today, I am definitely NOT an athlete; I like clothes, but my tastes are simple no haute couture around here so I don’t need to be a size 0; I LOVE food, and I will never ever ever and let me repeat EVER gift up pasta. Somewhere in my past lives is a very large and very happy, loving Italian woman that brings pasta and meat sauce to the table and says mangia followed by calloing all those at her table “familia” whether they are related or not. So this brings us to the dilemma of present day where sometimes those foods and lack of athleticism don’t exactly co-exist to make a harmonious or fit body. I have decided to take some action. I am trying many different exercises and sports to find things that I like and that I might actually be able to do well. I have also decided to try and use the weight watchers program. By trying multiple exercises I will hopefully not get bored and will find something that I truly enjoy and makes me some kind of athletic soul. And of course weight watchers allows me to have food I love but learn to be responsible about it. But let’s face it, I will always have a place in my heart for that sweet Italian lady that just wants us all to be full and happy, because after all, we are familia. So you will get to see the recipes I create (some healthy, some maybe not so much), recipes I just try, I will also share with you my struggles and successes as I navigate the gym and the abundance of work-out videos in the world. Stay tuned!

Love, Becky
